Community Over Competition

I am sure that most of you have heard the saying “Community over Competition”. Well today I want to write about just that! Community… the people you surround yourself with both in person as well as online. There are a lot of people in this world who have a hard time seeing other succeed or even supporting their friends or family members when it comes to this. Often times there is a fear associated with why someone feels the need to not support someone or jealousy kicks in. However, what I am here to say to you today is that there is room for everyone at the top! Where did we get this idea that if someone else is successful that it will directly affect your own success? It is such a twisted way of thinking because truthfully who determines your own success? What defines your success? Because in society there are a lot of ideas around what success should look like & often times we just pick up on that idea & roll with it.

I have re-defined for myself what my own success should look like. And let me start by saying it has nothing to do with the number of followers I have on my blog, or the number of readers, it has nothing to do with the amount of followers that I have on Facebook, Instagram or Twitter, and it has nothing to do with how much money I make. It has everything to do with my own goals, values, & understanding of who I am as a person & what makes me tick. I have realized that all those other things are fleeting. I would actually consider myself successful in many ways but when I compare that to what society is putting off as successful then I may find myself disappointed. I think success is finding myself, finding my comfort zone & stepping out of it, it is about supporting others just like myself, encouraging others, being authentic in who I am, and overall enjoying life to the fullest. “I mean you only get one life but if you live it right then once is enough” – Unknown. Ultimately I don’t want to live my life not supporting others, I want to live my life continuing to build community & supporting other like-minded & non lik-minded people.

I have met some of the most incredible, honest, humble, and  nicest people through social media. The type of people that support me even though they have never met me, the type of people that go out of their way to pray for me, or send me messages saying they are thinking of me, the type of people who know that there is room for everyone at the top & that as a community we are in this together!

So in keeping with this… I want you to know that what you see on my social media platforms is my highlight reel… I try to be as authentic as I can on there but I also show the highlights of my life. I also want you to know that I am not perfect, my life is not perfect, I don’t have everything together, and you know what that’s alright. Despite what you may see on Instagram, Facebook, or Twitter know that I am also human, that I am also struggling, that I am doing the best that I can to be me & to support those around me. With that said my blog is a place where I do express myself, my emotions, the struggles, the daily life, the ups & the downs. I want to share my life with you & everything that encompasses. It isn’t just about the highlights all the time but also about the lowlights because I learn best from those moments & truthfully they make me a stronger person.

So I want to encourage you to encourage one another & to know that supporting someone else won’t ever affect you in a negative way. I love these two quotes “Supporting another success will never dampen your own” – Unknown and you know what… I have found this quote to be 100% true. I enjoy supporting others & want to delight in them when they hit a great milestone. I also love the quote “I choose to surround myself with phenomenal people who are confident and secure enough to know that there is room for all of us to make it to the finish line”- Unknown. There is so much to be said about the people you surround yourself with but for the sake of space and time I will keep it short. Know when you need to step back from someone because they are bringing you down & it is okay to be picky about the people you choose to surround yourself with! This is how I am choosing to live my life because I know that it is important to bring positivity & to also support others.

So for those of you who are feeling low, or not supported, know that I care, that I see you, I support you & I want to see you succeed! And know that you are not ALONE on this journey! And lastly know that you are worthy, abundantly loved, cared for, and brave!
